No Cars!
The island of Hydra has no cars! Transportation includes walking or taking a donkey, horse, or mule. Residents of the island can be seen hauling groceries and appliances on donkeys. Because of this, the cat population is booming, and you have a furry friend everywhere you look.

It Looks Like the Movies
Movies have been filmed on the island of Hydra, such as Boy on a Dolphin and A Girl in Black. Because of regulations regarding building and maintaining houses, the island looks exactly as it did in the 50's.

Maritime
Because of Hydra's extensive maritime resources, they joined the War of Independence even though they were not under Turkish rule. Their resources greatly aided the Greeks in the war, and because of this, Hydra is the only place in Greece to have their own flag separate from the Greek flag.
