Mani Peninsula

The freshest seafood and more beautiful water!

Argh!

The Mani Peninsula was a hotspot for pirates up until the 19th century when King Otto of Greece tried to fight piracy. He attempted to detroy the pyrgospitas, where many pirates were, however, his army was unsuccessful. It was only when the pirates couldn't keep up with the upcoming age of iron and steam boats. You can look at the pirate shipwreck above!

Why So Blue?

We found ourselves asking, why is the water in Greece so blue? To answer, it is a reflection of the sky. We have that in Florida though? What makes this different? It is because the water does not contain much solid matter, such as plankton, mud, and dust particles that could easily float up and cloud the view. It is very rocky, which also helps to filter the water and they cannot be picked up and travel easily, keeping the view clear. In that case, take Rick Steves' advise and bring water shoes!
